Buzz is that Kapoor’s character in Sanjay Gupta’s next has strong shades of Thackeray
A little birdie tells us that Anil Kapoor’s character in Sanjay Gupta’s Mumbai Saga has strong shades of Bal Thackeray. That’s not all! We hear that his character is also inspired by Vasai-Virar strongman Bhai Thakur and NCP Chief Sharad Pawar. In the past, Amitabh Bachchan’s character in Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar and Sarkar Raj had borrowed elements from Balasaheb Thackeray. Anyways, here’s more about Mumbai Saga.
The story has been written by S Hussain Zaidi, and Milap Zaveri is writing the dialogues. Incidentally, the story of Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout at Wadala was based on Zaidi’s book Dongri to Dubai and the dialogues were written by Zaveri. These aren’t the only co-incidences. The screenplay of Mumbai Saga is being worked upon by Prashant Pandey, the same person who crafted Amitabh’s character in Sarkar Raj.
So what does Gupta have to say about Anil Kapoor’s character in Mumbai Saga? He says, “It’s too early to talk about the character since the film is still being written. But yes, it is inspired by some real politicians who were instrumental in converting Bombay to Mumbai and changing the city’s landscape.”
Well, this won’t be the first time Kapoor will be playing a politician on screen. But if his character is actually inspired by Bal Thackeray, this is certainly the first time he will be playing such an influential politician onscreen. Considering Big B has done it in the past, do you think Anil Kapoor will step into Thackeray’s shoes convincingly enough? Tell us what you think, BollywoodLifers!
