On that dreadful night of 3rd June, 2013, 25-years-old talented Bollywood beauty, Jiah Khan was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her bedroom in her Juhu apartment, unable to cope with her circumstances. A distraught Rabia told the police in her statement: “She was fed up with the struggle… she was besotted with Bollywood, but Bollywood had nothing to offer her.”And what did the police do? Well, without carrying proper investigations, they stamped it as a suicide case.
Months later, Jiah’s case was forced to re open, with mother Rabia insisting that her daughter would never have taken such an extreme step of ending her life, and that Jiah was murdered, by someone very close to her.
Interestingly, after a shocking turn of events, Jiah Khan’s suicide is now appearing to look more like a murder.

Human flesh under Jiah’s fingernails
Detailed forensic reports state that human flesh was found under the late actor’s fingernails, which is a sign of struggle before death.
Bloodstains
The Kalina Forensic Laboratory report also states that Jiah’s underwear showed bloodstains.
Alcohol in Jiah’s stomach
Rabia had also submitted the reports for an independent opinion to Dr RK Sharma, former head of Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, AIIMS. As per his report, 300 ml alcohol was found in Jiah’s stomach. Dr Sharma’s note says, “If that amount of alcohol was found in her body, then she was clearly incapacitated and it is possible for an able-bodied person to hang an incapacitated person.” It also states there’s a “strong possibility’ of Jiah’s death being a ‘homicidal hanging”.
Evidence destroyed
The most important piece of evidence (the human tissue and blood caught in Jiah’s finger-nails) was summarily destroyed by the investigation team, leave alone, the case not properly investigated. Dr Sharma’s this question has now triggered several minds.
No brain or lung hemorrhage unlike usual suicide cases
In a petition to the High court, it stated that, that a person who hangs herself will be found with her eyes and tongue popping out, while in Jiah’s case it was not so. It also said that in such cases brain or lung hemorrhage is observed, but even this was not the case with Jiah.
Injury marks on face, lips and arms
The petition also stated that there were other injury marks on Jiah’s face and body apart from the usual ligature marks that appear due to hanging. It points towards an injury on the right side of her lips and a mark on her left arm, “as if someone held her tightly.”
The curious case of the “soft material”
According to the police, Jiah allegedly hanged herself with a soft muslin dupatta. But Dr Jerajani said that the depth of the ligature marks was difficult to achieve with soft material.
No stool or chair found at the crime scene
In the petition it was mentioned a difference in the height between the floor of the room and the ceiling fan, which is located right between two single beds. According to the petition, the fan, on which her body was found hanging, was at a substantial height. For Jiah to have climbed to that height, she must have needed a stool, or a chair, or something equivalent – but such a stool or a chair was never found at the crime scene.
All listed points indicate to the fact that she was strangled
The ligature marks on Jiah’s neck are inconsistent, thereby pointing at the possibility of strangulation. This contention has been backed by Dr RN Jerajani, an independent forensic expert.
CCTV footage
According to Jiah Khan’s CCTV footage, just before her death, she was seen wearing a track suit; but she was found hanging in a gown. Who changed her clothes?
Why was the window open when the air conditioner was on?
Another aspect to take note is the open window of the room in which she was found hanging. Despite the air conditioner switched on, the window was wide open. Did someone gain entry, or perhaps, ran away through that window?
