Amitabh Bachchan, who has got his hands full shooting for his upcoming film Bhootnath Returns and his quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati turned 71 yesterday. Instead of having a grand star-studded birthday bash, the veteran actor had a quiet party with his family. His wife Jaya Bachchan organized a private party to which Bachchan’s friends and relatives were invited. Film-maker Vishal Bharadwaj was also at the event. His singer wife Rekha Bharadwaj sang some sufi songs as a tribute to Big B.
He also tweeted saying “Thank you all for the greetings in person and in the virtual. It has made my day a lot happier ..a small family get together at night has just come to an end .. sufi songs, poetry recitations and a general atmosphere of like minded people.. The wife did it all … the decoration the people that were invited and the music of sufi singing by Rekha Bharadwaj, poetry recitations by several friends and mine of Babuji .. a warm cozy and enjoyable night.”
The actor also spoke about an initiative taken up by him to provide electricity to 3000 villages through solar power. This is a project under the Harivanshrai Bachchan Memorial Trust. The trust was established in the name of Bachchan’s late father and legendary poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan. At the birthday party, Big B also recited some poems of his father.
