Ram Leela: U/A certificate

Ram Leela, which was dogged in controversies so far, has one thing less to worry about now. The much awaited movie helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has finally been certified by the Central Board of Film Certification without any audio/video cuts and has been given the U/A tag.

This means children can watch the movie under adult supervision. This movie has become the first among all of Bhansali’s films to be given a U/A tag; all the other films Khamoshi: The Musical, Devdas, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Black, Saawariya and Guzaarish were given the U tag- meaning children can watch the movie without any adult supervision.

“Sanjay Sir expected a ‘UA’ for Ram Leela. The basic storyline is violent and there are lots of guns in the film. Having said that the Censor Board has been extremely liberal with the aggressive language and the violence. They understood the context and completely empathized with SLB’s need to turn aggressive in Ram Leela,” says a source from Sanjay Bhansali Productions.

The movie, which is based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, releases on November 15.
