Known for its innovative designs, GEHNA Jewellers now brings an enchanting collection by ace jewellery designer Shaheen Abbas. A glimpse of exquisite ancient Arabic architecture is seen in her exclusive collection for Gehna : ‘The Magic of the Mashrabiyas.’

Sunil and Kiran Datwani of Gehna alongside celebrated jewellery designer Shaheen Abbas played hosts to guests such as Neha Dhupia, Dia Mirza, Mandira Bedi, Aditi Rao Hydari, Arshad Warsi, Maria Goretti, Sonali Kulkarni, Rohit and Mansi Roy, Madhoo Shah, Aditi Gowatrikar, Mini Mathur, Shruti Seth, Neeta and Nishka Lulla, Munisha Khatwani, Nainik Rupani, Sharmilla and Shaan Khanna, Zeba Kohli, Radhika Mukherjee, Krishika Lulla, Lucky Morani, Kunika Singh, Madhu Chopra (Priyanka Chopra “s mother ),Pooja Makhija, Deepika Gehani, Aneesa, Suchitra Pillai, Sophie Premji, Namrata Barua Shroff, Dilshad Khambatta, Aarti Surendranath. Roshan Abbas and Shaheens little daughter were there to support her. Shaheen’s collection as the name suggests is an inspiration from the Mashrabiyas from the Middle Eastern and Mughal architecture. Shaheen being an avid traveller; the journey itself becomes a source of inspiration for her. The collection inspired by the Mashrabiya or the ornate latticed window( also known as the jharokha) , marks a new beginning for jewellery designer Shaheen Abbas. After being in the industry for 7 years designing precious and semi precious jewellery, Shaheen has created a name for herself . But this time around she will design exclusively for GEHNA Jewellers lending her art and creativity through her collections.

Mashrabiya’s have as many as 2000 pieces (elements) and in the subtle design can be hidden inscriptions, objects etc. With this image in mind she set about creating a collection that will adorn the beauty of every woman. “Diamonds tell a thousand tales and hide a million secrets, just like the Mashrabiyas and so it seemed like a perfect blend of design and inspiration for me”, says Shaheen..

The entire collection is a comprehensive mix of cuff, bracelets, neckpiece, earrings and rings crafted in diamonds. With Shaheen being a part of the talented Gehna team, the jewellery brand has added yet another glittering jewel to their collection. “Life is too short to wear boring jewellery!” Shaheen says.

About Shaheen Abbas:

Shaheen’s love affair with diamonds began at an early stage. While growing up acquiring jewellery was a family tradition and Shaheen often recalls spending her time in front of the mirror trying on her mother’s jewellery. Being fashion forward she was always ahead of the curve to spot timeless trends. She enjoyed designers whose work was original, fearless and heartbreakingly beautiful and wished to translate a similar sensibility into her design. Jewellery was the perfect place to experiment with her sense of style. Seeing family heirlooms pass down generations, Shaheen was always intrigued by the intricacy of work and the timelessness of each piece. Soon Shaheen had developed an eye for detail. She didn’t just admire a piece she was keen to acquire the technique to produce it. For this she studied at the Gemological Institute of America to further hone her skills. “The difference between an amateur and a professional is the degree to which you understand your tools and your raw material”, Shaheen says, “Diamonds were the perfect playground for my imagination.”
