Mickey Virus box office: Manish Paul’s debut gets a decent start

The television host’s debut film has garnered mix reviews from the critics and even managed to get a decent opening on its first day

Besides Manish Paul and Elli Avram’s Mickey Virus, Amdavad Junction, Gang, Ishq Actually, Sooper Se Ooper and Wake Up India also released this week. However, only Mickey Virus proved to be a crowd puller but only to an certain extent. According to Boxofficeindia, “Mickey Virus collected around 1.50 crore nett on its first day which is reasonable for such a film but not commensurate with its release which was around 1200 screens with 6-8 shows on average at major multiplexes.”

Exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi says there are several reasons why Mickey Virus could not get cash registers ringing at the box office. He points out, “Multiple factors have been the cause behind the almost dismal collections of Mickey Virus. The lack of significant star power coupled with the terrible period of release (pre Diwali) has not allowed the film to have any impact.”

However, in comparison to other films, Mickey Virus fared slightly better. “The good distribution and marketing work on the film by DAR has enabled it to stand out in the clutter of six releases from his week” adds Rathi.

But on the weekend, the film failed to sustain its decent run. “Mickey Virus had a poor weekend as it grossed around Rs 4.75-5 crore net in its first weekend. The film showed growth on Saturday but it was limited growth and collections on Sunday were just slightly higher than Saturday. The film fared best in the Delhi NCR belt” reported Boxofficeindia.

Though Manish Paul is quite popular amongst the masses and his firang co-star has also became a household name courtesy Bigg Boss 7, it seems that hasn’t helped their film’s prospect at the ticket windows. And with Krrish 3 releasing on November 1, wethinks Mickey Virus will have a tough time at the box office.
