A pen is mightier than a sword; but for S.D. Burman music was greater than anything else. When legends like him grace bollywood they create pure magic! S.D. Burman is one of India’s finest music composers. Unlike many celebrities during his time, he maintained a dignified and clean image through out. The more we talk about this legend the less it seems. Blessed with a sharp sense of music he has made most of the top actresses groove to his beats.
S.D. Burman started his journey in Bollywood with a film called “Shikari” in 1944. His first major break through was in 1945 with “Do Bhai”. His life in Bollywood was gaining momentum after this and continued to do so, but Sachin Da as he is fondly called, was disillusioned by the materialism of Mumbai. Fortunately enough he was dissuaded and then there was no turning back. What happened after that was only thorough entertainment for the audiences. His songs were celebrated as festivals and he was worshiped as God by most.
In the 1950’s he teamed up with Dev Anand’s Nav Ketan production to churn out many hits like: Taxi Driver, 9212, Kala Pani, Paying Guest et al. In the 60’s he composed music for popular movies like: Guide, Jewel Thief, Ziddi, Aradhana for which he received the national award. In the 70’s he composed music for: Tere Mere Sapne, Sharmeelee, Prem Nagar, Sagina and many more. S.D> Burman was considered as the epitome of music. He created new records. It was shortly after this that S.D. Burman went into coma and passed away on the 31st of October 1975. Along with two national awards he also won 7 filmfare awards too.
He has made a mark for himself for the kind of music and lifestyle he has led. He also has worked with all the top singers of his times including legends like Lata Mangeshkar, Mohamad Rafi, Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey , Geeta DUtt, Shamshad Begum to name a few. Legends like him don’t just leave their beautiful music behind but also another person who can carry their legacy forward. S.D. Burman was no exception. His son R.D. Burman like him went on to create history living up to all the expectation set.
