There are huge speculations doing rounds in the industry circles with regards to its costing.
While some (trade) say the overall costing, which includes marketing, promotion and releasing, of Pankaj Kapur's directorial debut is around Rs 60 crores and the film hasn't received the expected returns. What with the opening collection not upto the mark to cover even the costing. Then some others, we hear, have a different story to tell about the film.

It is being said that the actual investment of producers - Sheetal Talwar and Eros International in the film was not more than Rs. 40-42 crores and Rs. 60 crores is an overstated figure. Further it is also heard that the first day opening collection of MAUSAM was quite good.
It is being assumed that this entire speculation, which has erupted, was due to the unawareness of the actual cost and the collections among the trade circles.
