Salman's Bodyguard hits Rs 100 cr mark beating his earlier film Dabanng
Even though the Salman & Kareena starrer Bodyguard received mixed reviews from critics, box office collections have been more than impressive. The movie has proved to be intensely rewarding for Bollywood grossing an estimated 86 crore in just the first four days of its opening in India! With this, Bodyguard surpassed the opening week net collections of previous Bollywood blockbusters such as Dabanng (81 crore) and 3 Idiots (80 crore).
“Salman’s super stardom, the special relationship he enjoys with his fans on Eid, the quality of the film, the multi-faceted marketing plan and the wide release have all combined to create a perfect storm” said Sanjeev Lamba, Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Enetertainment. “It will be the fastest film to net Rs. 100 crore in India” he added.
Similarly, film trade analyst Komal Nahata said: “The movie has got mixed reviews, but Salman’s fan following and the long-weekend have worked very well for Bodyguard. Going by the highest opening day and weekend collection, it will become the highest grosser for the week at the box office”
Multiplexes across India have stated that the film’s occupancies have been going strong with an average of 78-85%. In both big and small centers, the movie’s performance has been good. Gautam Dutta, chief operating officer at PVR said, “Occupancies have been consistent on weekend, making it the biggest blockbuster for the industry”.
