Veteran film producer Daggubati Ramanaidu, who was suffering from prostate cancer, breathed his last in Hyderabad yesterday. Popularly known as movie mogul, Ramanaidu was the founder of Suresh Productions, the film production house he had set up, has produced over 150 films in about 15 Indian languages. In fact, he received prestigious Guinness Book of World Records for this feat.
Superstar Kamal Haasan has payed a worthy tribute to the legendary filmmaker via this video. He speaks about why Daggubati Ramanaidu is the Last Of The Mohicans and how he was not just a south producer but a pan-India filmmaker, who loved cinema from the bottom of his heart.
Born in 1936, Ramanaidu moved to Madras in early 1960s in search of opportunities in the film industry. He had set up the Rama Naidu Studios in Hyderabad in late 1980s. Ramanaidu was conferred with Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 2009 and Padmabhushan in 2012.
Ramanaidu also forayed into politics and joined TDP. He represented Bapatla Lok Sabha constituency (1999-2004) and lost the seat in the subsequent elections and has been staying away from politics.
He is survived by sons Suresh Babu, Venkatesh Daggubati, daughter Daggubati Lakshmi and grandsons Rana, Abhiram, Arjun, Naga Chaitanya, grand daughters Malavika, Hayavahini, Ashritha, Bhavana.
